While typing injuries pose an ever-burgeoning problem, the number
of ergonomic products available in basic computer and office stores
is not burgeoning at the same rate. In fact, while multiple types
of ergonomic products – ones that can help prevent and/or
treat typing injuries – are available at your local computer
store, many are not. Many good products can only be purchased at
ergonomics stores and through ergonomics and/or medical magazines.
Depending on what it is you need (which can depend on the type
of typing injury you have and the extremity of it), you should check
out a store that specializes in that product. It is possible to
find resellers (both catalog stores and online stores) that specialize
in ergonomic products, keyboards, speech recognition, pointing devices,
office furniture, and more.
When shopping with resellers of ergonomic products, do not be afraid
to ask questions. Do not be afraid to ask, “How is this going
to relieve me of my typing injury?” “How can this be
adjusted?” “What would work better?” etc. It is
important to be well-informed about a product before buying it.
And realize that just because a certain product really helped your
friend, it may not necessarily help you – there may be a better
product out there to suit your needs.
