Accessories & Interfaces

If you are interested in treating and/or preventing typing injuries, there are multiple types of keyboard accessories and interfaces on the market today that you should take note of. The following are a few innovative ideas for treating and preventing typing injuries:

• Foot pedals – What better way to prevent a Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) in the hands, wrists, arms, and upper back than to take some of the load away from the hands and put it onto the feet? Foot pedals can be used in conjunction with keyboards and/or mice to take over basic keyboard functions like “ctrl,” “shift,” “alt,” or other keys, as well as mouse clicks.
• Keyboard stickers – High contrast keyboard stickers can help with poor vision.
• Wrist or arm pads – It is important to realize that unless otherwise stated, these wrist rests should only be used to rest your wrists/palms on while resting, not while typing.
• Negative tilt keyboard trays and other adjustable keyboard trays – Sometimes simply changing the tilt or placement of your keyboard can greatly reduce the strain you experience while typing.
• Interfaces – To connect certain ergonomic keyboards, mice, and accessories, you may need a special interface. Use an interface if you need to connect multiple components. For instance, a Y mouse allows the user to easily connect two mice to his computer, making it easy to switch from one to the other (or use them in conjunction with one another).
